WASHINGTON (AP) – Cars, power plants and factories could all soon face much tougher pollution limits.

The government took a major step in that direction Friday, concluding that carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases “endanger public health and welfare” under federal clean air laws, that they help cause climate change, or global warming and pose an enormous threat “in both magnitude and probability.”

It is the first time that the federal government has said it is ready to use the Clean Air Act to require power plants, cars and trucks to curtail their release of climate-changing pollution, especially carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.

The agency said the science pointing to man-made pollution as a cause of global warming is “compelling and overwhelming.” It also said tailpipe emissions from motor vehicles contribute.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Environmental Protection Agency concluded Friday that greenhouse gases linked to climate change “endanger public health and welfare,” setting the stage for regulating them under federal clean air laws.

The EPA action marks the first step toward imposing limits on pollution linked to climate change, which would mean tighter rules for cars and power plants. Agency officials cautioned such regulations are expected to be part of a lengthy process and not issued anytime soon.

Limits on carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases would have widespread economic and social impact, from requiring better fuel efficiency for automobiles to limiting emissions from power plants and industrial sources, changing the way the nation produces energy.

In breaking news, and let’s not hope a “break-out” a contractor cut a Fiber Optic line or lines which services the North Carolina Court System. Apparently this severed all communications into the various central court database putting a halt to numerous cases, payroll hearings, bail and so forth throughout North Carolina on Tuesday. ATT&T has reported service was restored in around 6 hours.

Slash Gear has reported that Verizon will ship a Storm 2 which will come WiFi enabled, something Verizon isn’t a big fan of doing with their various phones. The Touchscreen Blackberry will be released in September.
